Kendall Street Company CD release show at Shakas
It’s been awhile since my last blog post but I couldn’t think of a better reason to break my amazing streak of not doing much. I have a pretty cool show announcement! Yeah there’s definitely a difference between a “show” and a “gig”. We have more gigs than shows but want more shows.
Our friends, Kendall Street Company, from Charlottesville recently asked us to play with them for their CD release show at Shakas in Virginia Beach. Needless to say it’s an incredible honor and we were very happy to accept. This is a show of original music at an awesome venue that nurtures local and national artists. This is an opportunity for us to start moving in the direction of playing more of these types of events and potentially opening up for some national acts that come through the area. I’m asking you for your support by showing up and enjoying a night of music with us.
Why come out?
I meet a lot of you out and about that ask me about my career trajectory, goals and plans. I meet a lot of you that ask how they can support, or how they can help. Well this is how. Support local venues like Shakas and bands like us and Kendall Street Company. Buy a ticket, make the drive and bring your friends. Treat it like a movie you are itching to see… or maybe that mega famous rock star you been dying to catch without the distant lawn seats and 12 dollar beers. I will have tickets on me at all times between now and the night of the show (September 8th). If you happen to fancy doing things the new-fangled way and purchasing online, you can do that HERE.
Kendall Street Company was founded in the early months of 2013 by guitarist/vocalist Louis Smith and saxophonist Andrew Drehoff. The duo had been playingtogether for some time in the greater Virginia Beach area, joined by a rotation of talented musicians who performed behind Louis as the Louis Smith Band. After moving to Charlottesville in late 2012 to attend the University of Virginia, the pair began putting together a group of student musicians, adding Brian Roy on bass/vocals and Ryan Wood on drums/percussion in early 2013. Since then, the band has added Price Gillock on keyboards, Ben Laderberg on the electric guitar, and Jake Vanaman on saxophone.
The band performs regularly in Virginia and throughout the East Coast, maintaining a central presence in the Charlottesville area, which includes regular live radio performances and a debut EP recorded at Blue Sprocket Sound in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The group released their debut full-length album Earth Turns in the Summer of 2016. While Kendall Street Company’s music is influenced by a variety of musicians and styles, the group has been described as “psychedelic,” “alternative,” “jammy,” “rock,” “indie,” and “ska.” It is not uncommon for guest performers to join the group on stage for extended jams.
A locally owned and operated entertainment venue located in the heart of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront that hosts a variety of weekly local and national concerts across a wide range of genres. The concert sound system and lighting is state of the art! The corner stage gives an impressive viewing and listening experience from every spot in the room. The cocktails are reasonably priced, and menu offerings cover everything from traditional but exceptional bar fare to the best in local seafood.
